I was raised in a conservative Christian home in the 80s and 90s. The house was filled with the sounds of my parents fighting and conservative talk radio. My parents worked hard at church and ministry rather than their careers and parenting, leaving me and my siblings emotionally and financially neglected.
I was home schooled until I started community college at 16 and my entire world centered around Christian study and entering full time ministry. I married a woman with a significant trauma history at 19 and my twins were born 10 months later. The marriage failed after 5 grueling years and I found myself a single dad with immense emotional trauma by 25. I remarried a few years later and through a lot of hard work my wife and I have built a beautiful relationship.
In my early 30s the dissonance between my religious indoctrination and the reality of my life and spiritual experiences reached a head and my religious deconstruction began.
During the years that followed my deconstruction I was blessed to work with Eastern Philosophy, Psychedelic Plants and cutting-edge mental health tools like IFS Parts work, Somatics, Attachment Theory and Polyvagal Theory. These all proved immensely helpful and finally brought me inner peace and wholeness.
A few years ago it was revealed to me that I had thrown the baby (Jesus) out with the religous bathwater. Jesus actually had nothing to do with the religion I had jettisoned, and his teachings really do show the way to abundant life and spiritual alignment.
I’m immensely grateful to fall in love with Jesus again. It feels like a completely different relationship, far more authentic and meaningful than before.
I’m a Certified Mental Health Coach specializing in religious and home school trauma, and I love to talk about spirituality and love.
My four favorite teachers:
IFS Parts Work (with integrated somatics, attachment theory and neurophysiology)
Plant Medicines and the integrated psychedelic experience
Gene Keys - a lightweight nondogmatic highly potent spiritual path
The “red letter” words of Jesus Christ (I am not a Christian)
These are the methods I use today for my own development and to contribute to the development of others.
I’m 44 years old, have 3 adult kids and I’m married for the second time, this time happily. I’ve been a small business owner most of my life in the software space. When I’m not improving my mental health coaching skills I like to camp, work in my wood shop or do construction projects on my Arizona property.
